Public sector telecom operation Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is relying heavily on sports content for its tie up with Star India’s video on demand platform Hotstar.

BSNL has inked a deal with the OTT platform to ensure its subscribers free access to Hotstar Premium service under a new broadband plan.

The fixed-line broadband plan Superstar 300 for ₹ 749 per month shall provide consumers free access to all the Hotstar Premium service content. However, BSNL CMD Anupam Shrivastava is relying heavily on cricket and sports to benefit from the deal.

“Cricket matches today are being viewed more and more on mobiles, desktops, and Smart TVs, and customers will seek high data speeds. Our partnership with Hotstar Premium has started at the right time when sports entertainment is at its peak, and we want to bring the best offers to our customers with Superstar 300, to celebrate this mega sports season,” Televisionpost has quoted Shrivastava as saying.

The plan offers 300 gigabytes of downloads with 50 megabits per second download speed and thereafter unlimited data at 2 Mbps for customers using its optical fibre connection. BSNL customers using non-optic fibre connection will get 300 GB data with a download speed of 10 Mbps and thereafter unlimited services at 2 Mbps.

The subscribers will get access to all Live Sports, including cricket, Premier League, F1, Tennis and many more in the all-inclusive pack. Hotstar is presently simulcasting the ICC World Cup 2019.

“This partnership brings together the best of two worlds – BSNL’s high-speed data network that will allow for seamless viewing of the best of live sports and entertainment, from Hotstar Premium,” Hotstar Chief Product Officer Varun Narang said.
