LaLiga and Santander have reached an agreement to continued their sponsorship deal for the Spanish top flight football competition. The revised contract will run through the 2020/21 campaign.
The banking group Santander has sponsored LaLiga since the 2016/2017 season. The revised two-year deal were to conclude with the ongoing 2018 / 2019 season. The principal sponsor and LaLiga have now agreed to extend the deal by three years. This confirms that Spain’s top flight football will continue to named Santander LaLiga for the 2019/2020 campaign.
“When we joined forces with the world’s best and most innovative bank,” LaLiga president Javier Tebas has said. “We knew that it would really help us with our internationalisation efforts.
“During these first three seasons, we’ve seen how the link-up between LaLiga and Santander has been such a natural fit that we’ve been able to share our experiences, both sporting and in terms of sponsorship, to create two of the greatest brands in the world.”
Santander Spain CEO, Rami Aboukhair added: “We’re proud to give our name to the best league in the world and, through sport, to contribute to the progress of society and promote the brand of Spain.
“We continue to support sport in general – and football in particular – because sport represents values such as the search for success through teamwork, constant innovation and commitment. These are values that we share and which are the DNA of our organisation.”
The partnership incorporates LaLiga’s other competitions, including its second and third tiers, as well as La Liga Genuine, the league for people with intellectual disabilities, and the LaLiga Promises under 12 league.
Santander and LaLiga will also continue their ProPlayer initiative, which provides soccer scholarships in the US to youngsters in Spain.
