The organises of the Wimbledon Championship, All England Lawn Tennis Club have called for action against Saudi Arabia-based broadcast network beoutQ for unlawfully broadcasting television feed from The Championship.
The Wimbledon tennis championship organisers have condemned alleged piracy of event by the beoutQ platform for a the second successive year. The exclusive rights of the Wimbledon broadcast partners like beIN Sports, BBC, Canal Plus and ESPN have been unlawfully offered around the world through beoutQ’s IPTV apps.
“The exclusive rights of the AELTC’s broadcast partners – including but not limited to beIN SPORTS, BBC, Canal+, ESPN – have been accessible worldwide through beoutQ’s bespoke IPTV apps, which is not only wholly unlawful, but undermines the commercial value of Wimbledon’s IP all around the world,” the AELTC said in a statement.
The statement further adds that the AELTC would be making the “strongest representations” to the UK government to pressure Saudi Arabia on the issue.
beoutQ is accused of illegally receiving feed signals from regional satellite provider Arabsat. The Saudi Arabian State is the largest stakeholder in Arabsat.
The State has, however, time and again denied any connect with distribution of pirated content by beoutQ, which earlier this month was also accused by the Confederation of African Football of illegally distributing all the 36 group matches of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
beoutQ’s operations have previously been condemned by a host of sports bodies and broadcasters, including FIFA, UEFA, Sky and the BBC.
